We are a House - The Good Room

Hey guys,

I'd like to share my favorite analogy with you!

The good room is that one special room in the house. The room that contains all the furniture with plastic & no one can go inside. You are living in a house. Jesus is outside at the door waiting for you to let him inside. He will never force his way in because it’s your house, it’s your life. So, he waits. You only crack the door to talk to Jesus for a while or when it’s bad; when it's convenient, but he’s never allowed inside. You shut him out. The inside of the house is a mess & that’s the real reason you won't will let Jesus in. You like the way things are right now & you know if you invite Jesus in, things have to change. You invite other people to help you clean up the house, but they only make it dirtier. Even still, Jesus is outside with a bucket & gloves ready to help. You have to let him help. Only then will the house be clean. Jesus likes to deep clean too, so that it doesn’t get dirty again. He is thorough.

After you finally let him in, you have to get used to living with him in the house. Before other people come in & start contributing to the mess. You have to let in people that also love Jesus. Unequal yoking will result in the other person wanting to kick Jesus out of the house, leaving it to get dirty again.

A common mistake is people go through the motions of being a “Christian”. I am guilty of this too. We go to church. We do a good deed. When we don’t really live for God & we go through the motions, people see the good room where we’ve locked Jesus into. So that room stays clean, but what about the rest of the house? It’s dirty.

Revelation 3:20-21 reads, "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne."

So, if you know you need to invite Jesus into your house, pray Psalm 51. It is a prayer of repentance as well as acceptance of Jesus. After this, read Romans 6 to discover how sin's power is broken & you are made new through Christ!

A shirt based on this analogy is coming soon!
